Overview

Founded in 1989 in South Korea, Coway began by selling water purifiers through a door-to-door direct-sales model and grew into one of Korea's largest home-appliance companies, describing itself today as a "Best Life Solution Company." Its core product lines are water purifiers, air purifiers, bidets, water softeners, and, under its BEREX sub-brand, mattresses and massage chairs, most of which are offered via long-term rental/subscription plans serviced by in-home care visits (the "Coway Lady" service network) in addition to outright retail purchase. The company is publicly listed on the Korea Exchange (KRX: 021240). Netmarble Corporation became Coway's largest shareholder in 2019 after acquiring a stake from prior parent Woongjin Group; public filings put Netmarble's holding at roughly 25-27% (reported figures vary by source and date), making Coway an affiliate consolidated into Netmarble's group rather than a wholly- or majority-owned subsidiary. Beyond Korea, Coway operates through overseas subsidiaries with its largest overseas presence in Malaysia, alongside operations in the United States, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and other markets, distributing both through direct/independent sales-agent channels and conventional retail. Coway is frequently listed by third-party direct-selling/MLM industry sites as a network-marketing company, reflecting its door-to-door and agent-based sales heritage in Korea and some overseas markets; however, Coway's own official corporate communications describe it primarily as a home-appliance manufacturer and service provider rather than detailing a formal multi-level compensation plan.
