Immunotec
Immunotec Inc. is a Canadian direct-selling company founded in 1996 that manufactures and markets nutritional, wellness, and personal-care products, best known for its flagship Immunocal whey-protein isolate.
Overview
Immunotec Inc. is a direct-selling (network marketing) company headquartered in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, Canada. It was founded in 1996 to commercialize research related to McGill University-affiliated scientists Dr. Gustavo Bounous and Dr. Patricia Kongshavn, whose bioactive whey protein isolate became the company's flagship product, Immunocal (later expanded into Immunocal Platinum). The product catalog has since broadened to include additional nutritional supplements and personal-care items, sold through a network of independent consultants rather than retail channels. The company went public on the TSX Venture Exchange in 2007 under ticker IMM and grew its distributor base across Canada, the United States, and Mexico, with Mexico emerging as a major market (2015 Direct Selling News Global 100 ranking, #97). In March 2017, Immunotec agreed to be taken private through an acquisition by Immuno Holding S.A. de C.V., an entity led by Mauricio Domenzain and backed by the Mexican private equity firm Nexxus Capital, at 0.485 CAD per share (a roughly 23% premium), ending its run as a publicly traded company. It continues to operate as a direct-selling company selling primarily through independent consultants in North America.
