Overview

LR Health & Beauty Systems GmbH was founded in 1985 by Helmut Spikker and Achim Hickmann in Ahlen, Westphalia, Germany (originally as LR Cosmetic & Marketing GmbH), where the company still bases most of its manufacturing under a "Made in Germany" approach. It designs, produces, and sells nutritional supplements and cosmetic/skincare products, describing itself as one of Europe's leading social-commerce and direct-selling businesses in this category. The company distributes its roughly 300 products through a network of independent sales partners rather than traditional retail, a structure it refers to internally as its "career plan." According to its own public statements, LR operates in around 32 countries and works with approximately 300,000 sales partners, supported by a corporate workforce of roughly 1,200 employees. LR Health & Beauty SE has issued public corporate bonds and reports periodic financial results (e.g., 2024 revenue of about EUR 289.2 million), but the company itself is privately held, not listed on a stock exchange. Ownership has changed hands through private-equity transactions: LR was acquired by Apax Partners (minority stake in 2004, majority control by 2009), then sold to Quadriga Capital and Bregal Capital in a deal announced in December 2012. Bregal later exited, and Quadriga Capital has held 100% ownership since summer 2018. The company celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025.
