Nature's Sunshine Products was founded in 1972 by Gene and Kristine Hughes, who began by hand-encapsulating powdered capsicum, an early innovation in herbal supplement delivery. The company went public on Nasdaq in 1978 under the ticker NATR and has since grown into a multinational manufacturer of dietary supplements, herbal products, vitamins, minerals, and personal care items, offering several hundred products across categories such as immune support, digestive health, cardiovascular health, and weight management. The company sells its products through a direct-selling model, relying on independent distributors (referred to as consultants or affiliates) who earn commissions on personal and downline sales under a unilevel-based compensation structure.
