Overview

PartyLite traces its roots to a Cape Cod candle-making business founded by Mabel Baker in the early 1900s; PartyLite Gifts, Inc. was established as a subsidiary of that business in 1973, adopting a direct-to-consumer, in-home party sales model for candles and related products. The company grew over subsequent decades into one of the larger party-plan sellers of candles and home fragrance, expanding its catalog to include wax warmers, diffusers, body care items, and seasonal décor, and operating in multiple countries across North America and Europe. The company's ownership and structure have changed over time; it currently operates as a brand under parent company Luminex Home Decor & Fragrance. In February 2024, PartyLite announced a significant change to its go-to-market model in the United States and Canada: effective March 1, 2024, it moved away from a multi-level commission structure toward a single-level, direct-to-consumer approach in which independent sellers ("Brand Ambassadors") earn commissions on their own personal sales rather than on the sales of people they recruit. Reporting indicates PartyLite's traditional party-plan model has continued in some of its European markets. Today PartyLite sells its candle, fragrance, and décor product lines through its own e-commerce sites (including separate storefronts for the US and Canada) as well as through its independent sellers, positioning itself as a longstanding name in the home-fragrance and direct-selling candle category.
