Overview

Rodan + Fields makes skincare regimens (cleansers, treatments, moisturizers, sunscreens) and haircare products. It was created in 2000 by dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields, sold briefly to Estée Lauder for department-store distribution, then relaunched in 2007 under its own multi-level marketing model using independent consultants. The company is privately held and headquartered in San Ramon, California. In 2018, private equity firm TPG acquired a minority ownership stake at a reported 4 billion US dollars valuation. In September 2024, Rodan + Fields announced a shift away from its long-running MLM structure toward an affiliate-based direct-to-consumer model, a change that included workforce reductions at its corporate offices. The brand sells primarily in the United States, with additional consultant/affiliate markets in Canada and Australia, and positions itself around dermatologist-developed skincare regimens.
