Overview

Young Living was founded by D. Gary Young and Mary Young, who began organic herb farming and distillation in 1993 and formally established the company in 1994, later creating the "Seed to Seal" quality standard for sourcing and producing essential oils. The company is headquartered in Lehi, Utah, and remains privately held; Mary Young has continued to lead the company following D. Gary Young's death in 2018. The company's core product line centers on essential oils, oil-infused personal care items, supplements, and home products, sold through a network of independent distributors called "Brand Partners." Young Living operates a unilevel-style compensation plan, in which distributors earn commissions on personal and downline sales across multiple levels, subject to monthly volume qualification requirements. Young Living has expanded from its original U.S. base into international markets across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and other regions, supported by regional offices and farm operations. It is one of the larger and longer-established companies in the essential oils segment of the direct-selling industry.
