Direct Selling in Louisiana
Two Fortune 500 companies keep their head offices in Louisiana, one in Monroe and one in New Orleans. The state had 4,618,189 residents in the Census Vintage 2025 estimates. This page covers Louisiana's small business base, its workforce, two LSU campuses with record enrollment, the state's pyramid scheme law and what Plondo's directory shows here.
Monroe and New Orleans on the Fortune 500
Axios New Orleans reported that Louisiana had two companies on the 2025 Fortune 500. Lumen Technologies ranked No. 325 and is based in Monroe. Entergy ranked No. 355 and is based in New Orleans. A third Louisiana company made the Fortune 1000.
The two largest head offices sit at opposite ends of the state. Monroe is in the north. New Orleans is in the south. A sales team that wants to reach the people who work around either headquarters has two separate home markets to cover, not one.
Neither company appears in Plondo's directory of direct selling companies. The Fortune list shows where large employers are based in Louisiana. It does not show where direct selling companies are based.
498,183 small businesses and 867,762 small business jobs
The SBA Office of Advocacy counts 498,183 small businesses in Louisiana. They make up 99.5 percent of the state's businesses. They employ 867,762 people, which is 54.5 percent of Louisiana employees.
Those shares mean more than half of Louisiana's employees work at a small firm. Many of them work close to an owner and see how a small business runs from day to day.
An independent distributor in Louisiana joins a business community where the small firm is the normal case, not the exception. Customers here already buy from family shops and sole owners in every parish.
Records at LSU Shreveport and LSU of Alexandria
LSU Shreveport reported a record fall 2025 enrollment of 11,359 students. The school said it was the first time it passed 11,000 students. LSU of Alexandria reported a record fall 2025 enrollment of 7,684 students.
Both campuses are in the LSU system and both are outside Baton Rouge. Shreveport is in the northwest of the state. Alexandria is in the center.
For a direct selling company, these records point to a growing group of students, faculty and campus staff in north and central Louisiana. They are part of the local market in those two cities, alongside the much larger metro around New Orleans.
A smaller jobless count in the latest BLS value
The Bureau of Labor Statistics page for Louisiana lists a civilian labor force of (p)2,107.5 thousand. Employment stands at (p)2,019.3 thousand. Unemployment stands at (p)88.2 thousand. The (p) marks a preliminary value that BLS can revise.
The unemployment value is lower than each of the five earlier values shown on the same page. The labor force value is also the lowest of the six shown. Employment rose slightly from the value just before it. So the smaller jobless count came mostly with a smaller labor force.
These are statewide counts. They do not split out Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria or New Orleans, and a company planning a Louisiana launch should not read them as city figures.

A Louisiana technology firm, an empty company list
Plondo's directory lists no direct selling company with a head office in Louisiana as of October 2026. Plondo itself is a Louisiana company. It builds commission engines, back offices, replicated sites and AI employees for direct selling companies.
A Louisiana rep who works with a company in the directory works with one based outside the state. That company still has to follow Louisiana law when it recruits and sells here, which is why the statute below matters to firms with no Louisiana address.
Title 51 and the registration form
Promoting pyramid promotional scheme unlawful[7]
Louisiana law bars any person from promoting a pyramid promotional scheme in the state, or causing one to be promoted there. Section 51:361 holds the definitions and section 51:363 covers violations and penalties. Plondo did not retrieve the text of those two sections. This is general information and not legal advice.

Louisiana team leaders: a quiet search, no fee
Plondo is based in Louisiana and runs a placement service for team leaders who want a new company. It is free and confidential, and there is no placement fee. A leader in Shreveport, Alexandria, Monroe or New Orleans can ask what fits without telling a current company or team. Plondo's directory has no Louisiana head office, so a match will likely be a company headquartered in another state.
Apply confidentiallyWhat a Louisiana launch asks of its software
A company selling across Louisiana pays a field spread from Shreveport and Monroe to Alexandria and New Orleans. It needs a commission engine that closes each period cleanly, a back office reps can read on a phone, a replicated site for every rep, and AI employees that answer routine rep questions after hours. Records should be ready for a review under the state's pyramid statute.
