Direct Selling in Nevada
Nevada had 3,282,188 residents in the Census Vintage 2025 estimates. Its August 2026 jobs report put leisure and hospitality at the front of the month's gains. This page covers the state's job figures, its three metro areas, its small business count and its public college system. It also shows what Plondo's directory lists for Nevada today.
Hospitality led August's job gains
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation counted 1,619,400 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in the state in August 2026. Leisure and Hospitality gained 3,100 jobs from July to August. That was the largest gain the agency named for the month.
The statewide unemployment rate fell over the same month and stood at 4.8 percent. The labor force shrank and stood at 1,675,646 people. So the rate dropped while fewer people were counted as working or looking for work.
For a direct selling company, the report describes the people a Nevada team will meet. Most hold jobs already. Many of the newest jobs are in hospitality, which keeps its own hours and schedules. A selling business in Nevada sits beside that work, not in place of it.
Las Vegas, Reno-Sparks and Carson City in the state data
The state labor agency reports on three metro areas. They are Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas, Reno-Sparks and Carson City. Of the three, Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas had the highest unemployment rate in August 2026.
These three areas are far apart and do not move in lockstep. A company with reps in Las Vegas and in Reno will see different local conditions in the same monthly release. Planning a Nevada launch metro by metro matches the way the state itself reports its numbers.
353,621 small firms, fewer than half the workers
The SBA Office of Advocacy counted 353,621 small businesses in Nevada in its 2025 profile. They make up 99.3 percent of the state's businesses. They employ 578,767 people.
Those employees are 45.0 percent of Nevada's workforce. So small firms are nearly every business in the state but employ fewer than half of its workers. Most Nevada workers draw a paycheck from a larger employer.
An independent seller is, in practice, one more small business on that list. In Nevada that puts a new rep among hundreds of thousands of other small operators. Many of the people a rep talks to will work for a large employer instead.
Seven public campuses, 110,389 students
The Nevada System of Higher Education reported a student headcount of 110,389 in Fall 2024. It describes itself as seven teaching institutions serving 110,000+ students.
The system includes UNLV and UNR, along with a state university, community colleges and a research institute. The campuses sit in the same regions as the state's metro areas. Students and campus staff are part of the population a Nevada company will reach, in Las Vegas and in Reno alike.
