Direct Selling in Connecticut

Connecticut had 3,688,496 residents in the Census Vintage 2025 estimates. Its job count hit a record in April 2026, yet its unemployment rate stood at 5.1% in September. This page covers the state's labor numbers, its small businesses and its public college system. It also covers the one Connecticut head office in Plondo's directory.

A record job count and a 5.1% jobless rate

Nonfarm employment in Connecticut rose by 5,700 jobs in April 2026, according to the Connecticut Department of Labor. That brought the total to 1,725,300, a new all-time high. The figure counts jobs at employers in the state, seasonally adjusted.

The unemployment rate tells a different story. The federal Local Area Unemployment Statistics program estimated the preliminary September 2026 rate at 5.1%, seasonally adjusted. A record number of jobs and a 5.1% rate can sit side by side. One counts positions at employers. The other counts residents who want work and do not have it.

Both numbers describe the people a direct selling company meets in Connecticut. Many hold a payroll job in a state with more jobs than ever. Others are looking for work in a state where the jobless rate was 5.1% this fall.

381,129 small businesses and 726,097 workers

The SBA Office of Advocacy counted 381,129 small businesses in Connecticut in its 2025 profile. They make up 99.4 percent of the state's businesses.

Those firms employ 726,097 people, or 48.1 percent of Connecticut employees. Slightly under half of the state's workers draw a paycheck from a small business. The larger share works for bigger employers.

The same profile counted 5,237 Connecticut firms that exported goods. An independent seller who registers a business in Connecticut joins a state where nearly every business is small.

Participation at 64%, underuse at 8.2 percent

Connecticut's labor force participation rate was 64% in a November 2025 state release. That was higher than the national rate of 62.5%. A larger share of the state's adults are working or looking for work than in the country as a whole.

The labor force still shrank. The same release said the state's labor force had decreased by 19,600 since January.

A broader measure, the U-6 rate, adds people who work part time but want more hours and people who have stopped looking. The BLS put it at 8.2 percent in Connecticut for 2025, compared to 8.0 percent for the nation. Connecticut sat slightly above the national figure.

CSCU enrollment up 6.7% in fall 2025

The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system, known as CSCU, serves about 100,000 learners, according to the system. Its total student enrollment rose 6.7% in fall 2025.

That rise means more Connecticut residents are fitting coursework into their weeks. A company that recruits in Connecticut may meet reps whose selling hours depend on a CSCU class schedule.
